A Holiday Postcard from NYC

Postcard from NYC commemorating the December holiday season: As an unprecedented Fall semester at NYU comes to a close, CommClub wishes everyone a safe and delightful winter break wherever you are.

I wanted to create a festive piece that would put a cap on 2020 and a long, strenuous semester at NYU. Although this year was far less than ideal, Winter Break should serve as a time to finally take a deep breath and relax. I wanted to celebrate festivity in the city with this piece, while also tying in cultural/religious elements such as the Jewish menorah (left), a unity cup for Kwanzaa (right) and a Christmas tree similar to the one found under the Washington Square Park arch at this time of year. I encased these symbols in a glass case, which also somewhat serves as a snow globe, because it connotes the bubble we have all been subjected to live in due to the global pandemic. I used Photoshop to design this piece with a postcard format because many people will be traveling this Winter Break, many unlikely to return to New York City. Thus, I wanted this piece to feel like the city was sending us all love and best wishes as we embark on a new year wherever we are in the world.
