An Oral History for the Current Day

Bushwick, Brooklyn

This year - 2020 - has been like none other. January 1, 2020 was being celebrated not only as a new year, but a new decade of growth and progression...how that changed quite rapidly. Instead of planning the next travel destination or graduation festivities, many around us have been trying just to survive. The COVID-19 Pandemic has impacted every aspect of normal life - as we knew it before. As everyone has been affected, I find it crucial to unearth the narratives of my peers. How are they surviving or struggling? What is on their mind amongst all this uncertainty? I opened these conversations with a dear friend of mine, Nikkie. As we speak, the narrative goes beyond COVID to include the Black Lives Matter protests (that still continue to this day) as well the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election. This oral history explores the authentic emotion and perspectives of two friends in their early 20s...living in Brooklyn...making it work...and surviving. A special cameo feature from Nikkie’s roommate adds to the surprise. With open ears, hearts, and minds, please enjoy.
