5 Places to Get Coffee Around Campus

Because I know you are tired of campus Starbucks.

  1. La Colombe - Corner of West 4th street and Lafayette

La Colombe has some of my favorite coffee ever. The line can be long and the prices are high but for a special treat, it is worth it! Lattes are always perfect and creamy, they have an array of artisan brews and even the teas are subtle and delicate. But the shining star of La Colombe is the draft latte. This creamy, airy coffee is on tap and comes with a foamy cap. Pair it with an almond croissant and that is one of the best study snacks ever. It can, however, be tough to get a seat in the small shop and there is no wifi – get it all to go and head to campus!

2. Think Coffee - Mercer and W 4th st

Think Coffee is super close to campus, fast and has a great selection of food. It is a staple campus spot and a general crowd pleaser. The beverages are average but the food can be great: they have a large selection of quiches, sandwiches and baked goods. With ample seating and decent wifi, this is a good study spot to hunker down for a few hours when Bobst just gets too depressing. Don’t be surprised if you see your professor grabbing a coffee there!

3. Irving Farms - W 3rd behind Kimmel

This upscale coffee shop makes the best dirty chai! With a myriad of expensive drinks and overpriced but great food, this is not your everyday coffee shop. The cafe has an air of intelligence, so it is a great place to go chat with friends or read those dense Text and Ideas books you have been putting off. My productivity skyrockets here and I think yours will too… no Wifi so be sure to print out your readings.

4. Matto - Mercer and Waverly

Is your caffeine addiction putting a strain on your bank account? Check out Matto! Everything is $2 from lattes to breakfast items. This tiny place is Grab-and-Go, so grab it on your way to class. It’s not going to be the best coffee you have ever had, but this Italian espresso bar chain is cheap and fast.

5. Third Rail Coffee - Sullivan Street and W 3rd

This tiny coffee shop has some of the nicest workers of any coffee shop I have been to. The coffee is good, the pastries are satisfying and the service is always great. The shop is hella-small but it’s convenient for grabbing coffee on your way to class if you get off at the West 4th subway station; the chill aesthetic will definitely make you feel cool enough to roll into class late with a coffee in hand.
