Pantone Colors of Fall 2019

Pantone, the company that is best known for deciding the “Color of the Year,” also predicts colors that will be popular in fashion during the autumn and winter season at the end of each year. This year’s autumn/winter color palette featured a lot more natural colors and earth tones than usual, so I thought it would be interesting to see how those colors would actually look in nature. I drew this fall leaf using a real life reference image and only the colors in Pantone’s predictions. The result was honestly pretty realistic, though Pantone didn’t provide any yellow shades that would have matched my reference image better. I did not challenge myself to use all of the colors I had, but I think the only ones I didn’t end up using were Fruit Dove, Galaxy Blue, and Bluestone. If you look really closely at wear the leaf meets the stem, you can see where I used the darkest blue, Evening Blue, to make some darker spots. The ones I used the most were the two midtone oranges, Dark Cheddar and Orange Tiger, which I used to make the base color of the leaf in lieu of a yellow shade.
