Located right at the edge of Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village, the BÀO Tea House offers bao buns and tea drinks. For savory baos, the tea house offers The Classic Bao, the Pork Bao, the Chicken Bao, and the Veggie Bao. For sweet baos, the tea house offers the Lava Bao, the Matcha Bao, the Egg Bao, and the Choco Milk Bao. For under $6, the bao buns come in sets of twos!

Tucked away in East Village, DokoDemo specializes in casual Japanese street food. The menu ranges from okonomiyaki (Japanese pizza) to takoyaki (Japanese calamari) to yakisoba (stir-fried ramen), and are all under $10. Each dish is made to order, and one can see the entire cooking process through the glass panels.

Pommes Frites

A local favorite of / on Macdougal Street, Pommes Frites brings Belgium's most popular street food to New York for just under $10. The poutinerie serves thick-cut and double-fried 'bintje' potatoes in a paper cone. The fun of the experience is choosing from nearly 30 different dipping sauces!

Another favorite on Macdougal Street, Raku is a Japanese restaurant specializing in hot and cold udon. The price ranges from $9 for the kamaage udon (basic hot dipping sauce) to $15 for the chikara (mochi, chicken, tokyo negi) to $25 for the nabeyaki (seafood). Raku has something for everyone, so come with expectations!

Westbourne is an all-day vegetarian restaurant with a distinct West Coast spirit. The menu ranges from $9 for the Foster’s Yogurt (roasted banana yogurt with turmeric) to $17 for Sunset Grains (wild farm grains, maitake mushrooms, chili oil). Additionally, with a partnership with the Robin Hood Foundation, a portion of every meal made at the restaurant will benefit The Door, an organization that supports local job training!

A little downtown walk from campus, Urban Backyard is a hole-in-the-wall cafe with a focus on eco-friendliness and sustainability. The cafe serves specialty coffee, draft lattes, teas, and baked goods, with their most popular being their succulent cupcakes! Additionally, the cafe offers a discount if you bring your own cup, and also have bamboo cutlery, bamboo straws, and other eco-conscious goods available for purchase.

Another walk down south of campus, the Bakery boasts many signature creations, from the famed Cronut® pastry, which has been named one of TIME magazine's "25 Best Inventions", to the Cookie Shot to the Frozen S'mores. To avoid the long lines and tourists, make sure to pre-order online to reserve one (or if feeling ambitious, a dozen) $6 cronuts! This month’s flavor is Cranberry Pear & Olive Oil, filled with homemade cranberry pear jam and creamy olive oil ganache.
