Washington Square Park Arch

I began to make digital art using Adobe Illustrator in the 11th grade. However, I did have some previous experience working with Adobe Lightroom. I started using Adobe Illustrator as a way to create more complex and detailed pieces of art which required me to repeat a lot of the same elements. In particular, I was working on a piece about optical color mixing which required me to repeatedly make various small dots of the same colors. Instead of making the piece by hand, I wanted to make it digitally because it would be easier. That was when my art teacher introduced me to Illustrator. Since then, it has become  one of my main mediums for creating art. I enjoy making digital art because it is convenient since I can work on it anywhere without needing to go into an art studio.

Most of the art that I tend to create relates back to my life in some way or has some sort of personal significance. What inspired me to create this piece was the Washington Square Park Arch itself since I walk through the park everyday in order to get to class. I also see Washington Square Park as being a central point of the NYU campus since it is more or less our campus quad. I based this piece off of this image that I took of the arch

Although I am not sure what I want to pursue as a career, I can definitely see myself doing something related to art in the future. During my time at NYU, I hope to gain a better understanding of how to use Adobe Illustrator, since I was never formally taught how to use it, which will allow me to create more complex art works.
